What I learned about a really bad cold

This week I’m suffering from a cold, a really bad one, you might call it the flu, but for me it’s just a cold, even though the Dr said that I had an ear infection and probably if I went again they would say that I have a sinus infection and bronchitis, why complicate things and give them fancy names when it’s just a cold? It started out as a simple sore throat on Monday that got worse and forced me into bed rest on Wednesday, and well today Friday I went to work and even though I don’t feel good, I’m a lot better. Since it’s been a violent cold, it kind of forced me into thinking a bit about it and the feelings of these past few days, so here is the list of things that I learned from this cold.
That people are terrified of a cold, I felt like the carrier of the plague at work, no one entered my cube today and people talked to me keeping a 2 to 3 feet distance.  Someone in the elevator asked me how I was doing and as soon as the rest of the people realized that I was sick, everyone that could took a step away from me.  When I was in the bathroom coughing and blowing my nose (loudly), a lady in the next stall whispered something nasty and flew out of the bathroom as soon as possible, making sure to wash her hand before heading out to make sure she got rid of all evil.
That my path to natural stuff has to go easy, taking baby steps all the way through, that in this case jumping in the deep end of the pool is not the best thing to do.
That you may have a tough exterior and be very independent, but when you are feeling really crappy all you want is for someone to be by your side so they can lovingly do everything for you: tuck you in, bring you water, take care of all meals, and take care of everything, specially when any distance seems 100 times longer just because you can’t breath well.
That it really sucks when you want the person that is with you to be really involved with taking care of you and for several reasons it doesn’t really happen.
That Modern Medicine only focuses on the tip of the iceberg, regardless of history and without investigating any deeper, thinking about the consequences or pondering about the findings.
That the important thing for everyone, including modern medicine, is that you feel good right now, not that you got rid of everything that you needed to get rid of.
That it really, really sucks to feel like a baby, that all you are able to do is sleep, eat and go to the bathroom and don’t forget lots of liquids!!!!!
That you can have all the tools to get better available but that if you don’t know how to use them or how often to take them it’s like you had nothing at all.
That it’s not easy for me to call out for help, now I know that with a simple call, text email or electronic chat, someone would have told me the information I needed to use the tools I had.
That the people I work with like me and care, a little bit more than what I thought they did.
That pharmacists will try to sell their product even more so than doctors.
That if you want the instant cure all, in other words that they medicate you completely so you miss the least amount of days at work, you should go to the Doctor, only when you are feeling really, really bad and not when you are beginning to feel bad to prevent it from going where you know it’s going. Doctors will only prescribe and diagnose based on what they see and that they know what is happening inside your body, if it develops into something else it’s because you didn’t follow instructions and you must go and visit the Dr again, regardless that when you have a really bad cold it gets complicated.
That definitely till you learn the lesson you continue to go over the same thing again and again because what you really, really, really need is rest, quiet time and peace not only for your body but mainly for your mind and spirit.
That as soon as I call out for saying I’m not ok, angels poke out of nowhere and come to the rescue and to support me when I’m not really expecting it …… Thanks!!!!!
That the body is wise and ask for what it needs even if you decide to ignore it, like right now my body is asking me to go rest and here I am being stubborn and finishing my post.
